Warming Up: Let’s see some change in the Finger Lakes
Fast 5: What’s happening in the Finger Lakes?
PUBLIC SAFETY UPDATE: Earlier this month Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck announced via Facebook that the county legislature has approved the filling of key public safety positions, following a period of budgetary uncertainty. In a statement, he thanked the community for their support after voicing concerns in June about potential budget cuts. The positions in question, within the Sheriff’s Office and the Cayuga County 911 Center, had faced delays due to fiscal pressures.
911 DOWN RIGHT NOW: The Cayuga County 911 Center was dealing with some telephone issues early this morning, affecting its ability to receive emergency calls directly. Officials said they were working urgently working to resolve the problem.
HIGH COST OF DOING BUSINESS: Health insurance remains the number one concern for small business owners in New York, according to the latest study by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). This issue has consistently topped the list since 1986, driven by the high costs associated with small group markets.
DAY #1 AT NYS FAIR: Opening day at the New York State Fair drew large crowds, but for many, it wasn’t the rides or food that captured their attention—it was the live music. But that didn’t mean it was all good. The Fair shut down its Cuddling with a Baby Goat exhibit due to concerns about a potential viral outbreak.
BIG MONEY: The Village of Montour Falls has been awarded nearly $200,000 in grant funding as part of its participation in the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) Clean Energy Community program.
