NWS: 18 tornado warnings, at least two confirmed tornadoes, and plenty of damage across the Finger Lakes
Western New York saw 18 tornado warnings Wednesday, leading to two confirmed tornadoes and significant damage from heavy rain and high winds. An EF-1 tornado struck Forestville in Chautauqua County, tearing the roof off a home in Arkwright. In Erie County, another tornado destroyed Catherine Mammoser’s farm in Eden. Fortunately, no animals were harmed. Here in the Finger Lakes power outages and downed tree reports came in by the dozens. We have some photos and video from the day’s storms. EPA DELETES ENTRY: At the request of the U.S. Army, the EPA has deleted from its website a reference to the agency’s formal request that the Army test for PFAS chemicals in two creeks that run through the former Seneca Army Depot. [MORE]
LATEST ON LYONS WRECK: A car crash at the intersection of Ridge Road and North Huron Road resulted in multiple injuries on July 6. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports that Elijah Winter, 17, of Pittsford attempted to turn north onto North Huron Road and collided with a westbound car. [MORE]
FATAL CRASH UPDATE: New York State Police confirmed that Tony E. Catlin, 56, of Newfield, died in a rollover crash in Horseheads on Sunday. The accident happened around 6:47 p.m. on Lattabrook Road. [MORE]
GOOD CAUSE PASSAGE: The Ithaca Common Council voted 8 to 2 on Tuesday to adopt Good Cause Eviction Protections, becoming the fourth city outside New York City to do so. [MORE]
