Home total loss after massive fire in Hopewell
Firefighters say a home on Shekell Road in Hopewell was a total loss after a late-afternoon structure fire. Around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday firefighters from several departments were called to the home. A tanker task force was requested, but the property couldn’t be saved.
New Canandaigua YMCA inching closer toward completion: $2M grant secured from Empire State Development
The new Sands Family YMCA currently under construction on North Street has won a $2 million grant from Empire State Development. The new YMCA will be housed at 32 North Main Street. An array of services, including enhanced community and fitness services, as well as much-needed childcare, will be offered at the Y.
Dead shopping plaza in Macedon could see millions in investment from Rochester-area company
For those who live in the area Macedon has become a hotbed of economic development activity. Now, a long-dead plaza appears to be getting new life. The West Wayne Plaza along State Route 31 in the town of Macedon has been largely empty since Ames left it around two decades ago.

Lawmaker blasts Thruway Authority’s proposed toll hike: How much would it cost?
One day after news got out that the Thruway Authority was exploring a toll hike for motorists in 2024 lawmakers responded. How much more would it cost to travel on the Thruway, though if the proposed hike were approved? News10NBC found that if a person got on the Thruway in Rochester and traveled to I-81 in Syracuse the trip costs $3.04 with an E-ZPass. That same trip would cost about 15 cents more if the rate hike were approved. Non E-ZPass users would bear the biggest burden. That trip, which costs $3.95 now would skyrocket to nearly $7 each way in 2024.
