‘NOT A GOOD PARTNER’: Auburn mayor critical of NYS, urges action after harmful toxins found in water samples
Auburn Mayor Jimmy Giannettino is calling on state officials to address growing concerns over Owasco Lake’s water quality after harmful algal bloom (HAB) toxins were detected in the drinking water supply for the City of Auburn and the Town of Owasco. Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Giannettino urged swift state action, highlighting the urgent need for long-term solutions to protect the region’s water.

The Seneca County Board of Supervisors adjourned its Oct. 8 meeting after a larger-than-expected crowd exceeded the capacity of the historic Three Bears complex in Ovid, where the annual meeting is typically held. NOAA predicts milder, wetter winter for New York due to La Niña
New Yorkers may experience a milder, wetter winter ahead as La Niña conditions are expected, according to NOAA. With a 74% chance of La Niña, warmer temperatures and increased precipitation are anticipated. The National Weather Service forecasts a 40-50% chance of above-average temperatures statewide this fall and winter. Western and central New York, including the Adirondacks, may see higher precipitation, while New York City and Long Island have equal chances for normal levels.
