Auburn police chief retiring in January after 27 years of service
Auburn Police Chief James Slayton will retire on Jan. 20, 2025, marking 27 years and one day since beginning his career with the department. Slayton, who became chief in July 2021, cited family and health as key reasons for his decision, aiming to spend more time with loved ones, including his new grandson. During his tenure, Slayton led initiatives like securing body cameras, launching a mental health crisis team, and achieving department accreditation.

Syracuse hits road to face Texas in Legends Classic
The Syracuse men’s basketball team hits the road for the first time this season to face Texas in the semifinals of the Legends Classic at Barclays Center tonight at 7 p.m. The Orange (3-0) survived in double overtime last Saturday, beating Youngstown State 104-95 to remain unbeaten. Meanwhile, the Longhorns (3-1) dropped their season opener to Ohio State but have won three straight since.
