The Cayuga County Office Building will be closed on January 11 and 12 due to repairs needed after sustaining roof damage from high winds on the evening of January 9. In another weather-related update, more than 2,000 are still without power in Seneca County. That means a warming center at the Canoga Fire Department will reopen this morning—as power isn’t expected to be restored until tonight. A man from Beaver Dams was caught with a loaded gun in his carry-on bag at the Elmira Corning Regional Airport on Wednesday. The firearm was detected during a routine X-ray screening at the security checkpoint. TSA officers at the airport discovered the 9mm gun, which was loaded with seven bullets, including one in the chamber, in the man’s backpack. [Keep Reading]
Victor legal reps claim Eastview Mall could have 80% vacancy rate as legal battle over Lord & Taylor space heats up. The property, owned by Hudson’s Bay Company and empty since 2021, has become the center of a dispute between the town of Victor and the company. In 2022, a state court ruled against Victor’s attempt to seize the space through eminent domain, citing a lack of detail in the town’s original takeover plan.
