The calendar is about to tick over to December, and the holiday season is in full-swing. First up, we have a major update on the shooting and stabbing investigation that shut down part of State St. in the city of Auburn yesterday. Two Geneva men have been indicted by a grand jury less than 24 hours after the shooting. Two victims were being treated at Syracuse-area hospitals after the shooting and stabbing. [Read More]
Peter Mantius brings us an in-depth look at a Senate proposal that would require companies buying or selling salt mines to provide financial security to cover any damages due to roof collapse or mine flood. We learned last night that the court appearance of Brian Scanlan, the newly elected Cayuga County Clerk, has been delayed following his involvement in a hit-and-run accident in Owasco earlier this month. His court appearance, which was set for Owasco Town Court on Tuesday, was delayed until Dec. 12. [Read More]
And finally, Ontario County has named John Yannotti Jr., a former area resident, as its new Director of Emergency Management, effective December 4. The appointment, made unanimously by the county Board of Supervisors on November 16, fills the position left vacant by Jeff Harloff, who retired in July after 21 years. The selection process drew criticism, as some emergency services personnel say they weren’t involved enough in the process. [Read More]
