Massive structure fire destroys multi-family home in Williamson.
Firefighters in Wayne County were dispatched to a major structure fire during the overnight hours in Williamson. The call appears to have come in between 11-12, but exact details remain unclear. What isn't unclear is the swath of damage left behind: The home was destroyed by the blaze, leaving little more than the bones of the multi-family structure behind.
Chipotle in Auburn-area opens its doors today
The first Chipotle Mexican Grill in Cayuga County is set to open its doors this today (Aug. 17, 2023). Located in the town of Sennett on Plaza Drive near Staples and Panera Bread, the new Chipotle establishment will operate daily from 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. This 2,400-square-foot outlet will feature both a dedicated “Chipotlane” drive-thru for digital order pickups and a dining area.
Cargill trying to sell its Cayuga Lake salt mine, per new reporting: CLEAN wants it decommissioned, though.
Cargill Inc. is working with a financial advisor to sell its giant salt mine under Cayuga Lake and exit the deicing salt business, according a recent report in The Deal, a Manhattan-based financial website. Cargill, the nation’s largest private company, has operated the Lansing mine for more than five decades on several thousand acres of the lake owned by and leased from the state of New York. State regulators have often brushed off widespread public concerns about environmental risks posed by the mine.
