“WE’RE BACK”: Newark police restore 24-hour coverage after overcoming staffing shortages
After 16 months of reduced hours, the Newark Police Department will resume round-the-clock coverage as of Oct. 28, thanks to a bolstered staff. The update comes after a challenging period of understaffing that saw the department operating with a 20-hour daily schedule since July 2023. The return to full coverage is due to the recent addition of seven new officers and a transfer of an experienced officer.
