There’s a lot of promise and optimism at the South Seneca Elementary School following the appointment of Dan Fontanez last week. Initially, parents and community members were concerned about the appointment. However, school leaders say now that the decision was one made with plenty of thought put behind it, and with student outcomes at the front-of-mind.
New state law requires disclosure of property’s flood risk to buyers
New York is slated to become another state to require disclosing flood-risk information to prospective homeowners. The Legislature passed a law earlier this year requiring property owners to disclose whether a property is located in a 100- or 500-year flood zone, based on FEMA’s flood insurance rate maps.

Ontario County seeks public input on hazard mitigation plan update
Ontario County, in collaboration with its 26 constituent cities, towns, and villages, is in the process of updating its Hazard Mitigation Plan. The primary objective is to curtail long-term risks to both residents and property stemming from known hazards, ensuring more efficient mitigation efforts. The public is invited to two community meetings to gain insights on the updating process and to share their perspectives on potential hazards and the necessary actions to lessen their impact.
