The condition of a Tompkins County teen involved in a crash that claimed the life of another local student is improving, family reports. Beeman, who was driving a Toyota Yaris, was involved in a multi-vehicle accident that tragically resulted in the death of his 17-year-old passenger, Peyton Shaw, of Waverly. In Waterloo, the Board of Education has decided to postpone the hiring of Robert Banzer as their interim school superintendent. According to the Finger Lakes Times, the board voted unanimously to table a motion for Banzer’s appointment, indicating that further negotiations are needed. Banzer, set to retire on December 31 from his current role as superintendent of the Northport-East Northport Union Free School District. [Read More]
In a recent altercation at Auburn Correctional Facility, five officers were injured when a prisoner, convicted of murder in 2019, refused to comply with orders to enter his cell. The incident, which took place on December 6, escalated when the 25-year-old prisoner became violent, according to a news release by the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA) on Wednesday. In the wake of a violent incident at Harley’s Pub in Auburn last month, community members have come together to support the victims through GoFundMe pages. Scott Twiford and Justin Oram were the victims of a shooting and stabbing on November 29. Twiford was shot in the chest as he attempted to help his friend Oram, who had intervened in a fight at the pub and was subsequently slashed in the neck. [Read More]
