Deputies say no injuries were reported after a high-speed chase through several towns in Wayne County. Lisa A. Sweeting, a 33-year-old woman from Newark, was arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office following a high-speed pursuit. The incident began when Sweeting failed to comply with a traffic stop initiated by deputies in the town of Palmyra and continued through Marion, Walworth, and Ontario. [Read More]
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is proposing a rule on overdraft fees that would benefit New Yorkers. The rule closes a loophole exempting overdraft fees from provisions in the Truth in Lending Act. Research shows New Yorkers paid almost $1.5 billion in overdraft fees during the early years of the pandemic. Big banks oppose the rule, since it cuts into their profits. For now, the bureau is seeking comments from people about the rule, which is limited to financial institutions with assets equaling more than $10 billion. [Read More]

Auburn Correctional Facility is slated for a significant upgrade, with the New York State Office of General Services awarding over $4.4 million in contracts for modernizing the facility’s elevators. The ambitious $450 million project to modernize 27 rest stops along the New York State Thruway is on set for completion by fall 2025.
