GUILTY PLEA REACHED: A Clyde woman charged with killing her husband has accepted a plea deal. Two years after 53-year old Linda Martinez was arrested, she pleaded guilty Friday to first-degree manslaughter. “The agreed upon sentence is 8 years in the Department of Corrections with 5 years Post Release Supervision. The defendant also waived her right to appeal,” Wayne County First Assistant District Attorney Christine Callanan told FingerLakes1.com on Monday. [READ MORE]
NEW LEADER IN NEWARK: The Village announced the hiring of Richard Martin to fill the role of police chief. After serving in the U.S. Army, Martin started his police career with the Newark Police Department. He then had a 10 year career with the Rochester Police Department, including being part of the Technicians Unit, SCUBA Squad, Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor and Patrol Supervisor. GENEVA STUDENTS COMMENDED: Geneva High School students Luke Weber and Jana Fladd have been named Commended Students in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, was presented to the students by Geneva High School Principal Greg Baker. [READ MORE]

ARMED ROBBERY UPDATE: State police say they have made an arrest after an armed robbery at the Kwik Fill gas station along Route 332 in Farmington. A short time after it was reported to 911, an arrest was made nearby. [READ MORE]
RAISING MONEY LOCALLY: A local event organized by Ray Ciancaglini raised $10,000 for the Geneva Volunteer Fire Department. Accepting the donation from Ciancaglini, who is the founder of The Second Impact, were Geneva Fire Chief Del Parrotta and Rob Patnesky, Treasurer of the Geneva Volunteer Fire Department. Ciancaglini has been battling Parkinson’s Syndrome and Dementia Pugilistica for many years as a direct result of numerous untreated concussions he suffered during his boxing career. [READ MORE]
