DEVELOPING OVERNIGHT: Family loses everything, Lyons home a complete loss after overnight blaze
Firefighters were dispatched to a serious overnight blaze in Lyons on Tuesday. The call came in between 11 and 12 p.m., according to first responders. Scanner traffic indicated that a two-story split-level home was fully involved on Pilgrimport Road in Lyons. A neighbor said that while the family who lived there was safe—the entire home was a loss. “Family safe but lost everything,” the neighbor posted in an update to a community group on Facebook. “Prayers for everyone. Thank you to all those who helped with this and put out the fire.”
FINAL RESULTS SOON: Elections in contested races will likely be decided today as absentee ballots counted
The outcomes of two tightly contested Seneca Falls elections will likely be decided today as the Seneca County Board of Elections counts 52 absentee, affidavit, and other ballots. Meanwhile, in the City of Geneva, absentee and affidavit ballots are set to influence the outcomes of three City Council races, including a deadlock in the 6th Ward between Scott Bowes and Kyle Brimm.
Tyre residents rally against proposed 600 acre solar farm: “We’ve had absolutely no voice in the process”
A public meeting is set for Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the town of Tyre, where residents will voice their opposition to a proposed 125 megawatt solar farm development. The controversial project—covering approximately 625 acres of what is described as prime farmland—has sparked significant local dissent. The project, initiated by Delaware River Solar, LLC, initially covered about 1,600 acres but has been scaled down. Despite this reduction, the proposal continues to face strong resistance.
Family Promise advances plan for homeless shelter on Main St. in Canandaigua
Family Promise of Ontario County is taking strides to address the growing homelessness crisis by proposing an emergency shelter in Canandaigua. The shelter aims to accommodate six to eight families, addressing the rising homelessness, which has surged by 215% in Ontario, Wayne, Seneca, and Yates counties since 2007.
