In response to Gov. Kathy Hochul’s recent State of the State address advocating for increased safety measures on the roads, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has proposed a series of stricter penalties targeting high-risk drivers.
Updated state gun laws go into effect Wednesday: What are the changes?
Starting September 13, New York State is implementing new gun regulations, mandating that the New York State Police will supervise background checks for every ammunition and firearms transaction. Under the new guidelines, background inspections for ammunition will be priced at $2.50, while firearms checks will carry a fee of $9. These charges are instituted to financially support the fresh initiative.
Auburn considers hotel tax; local concerns over impact on tourism swirl
Following the governor’s approval of hotel tax bills for Weedsport and Skaneateles, Auburn city officials are contemplating the implementation of a similar tax. The Auburn Citizen reports that during a recent City Council meeting, City Manager Jeff Dygert inquired about the council’s stance on the matter. Officials highlighted the increasing demands on local resources due to higher fire and police call volumes from hotels.
