First up, some breaking news in the city of Geneva. Matt Colton, the Chief of Police there, has been placed on paid administrative leave, according to City Manager Amie Hendrix. The specific cause of leave has not been released yet, or confirmed by any city officials. The Town of Ontario, amidst New York State’s processing of retail cannabis business licenses, has decided to temporarily halt the establishment of cannabis dispensaries. A public hearing was held on Monday to gather community input before the adoption of a local law. This law will enforce a four-to-six-month moratorium on applications, approvals, and permits related to cannabis retail dispensaries. [Read More]

Mark Cronin, a trustee of the Village of Horseheads, made his first appearance at a board meeting since being indicted on charges related to a DWI incident. Cronin faces charges of vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated (DWI), and failure to stop at a stop sign, stemming from a July 4 crash in Yates County. The crash, where Cronin allegedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or greater, resulted in injuries to several people, including children. [Read More]

It was a classic week of high school basketball in the Wayne-Finger Lakes to get 2024 underway. Previous number ones of the power rankings both lost by the end of the week. For the first time since mid-December, new teams seat atop the power rankings of both boys and girls.
