Community frustrated over Wells College sudden closure; enrollment and financial viability was in decline for years
Fallout continues in the small community of Aurora, as well as others in Cayuga County, after the sudden closure announcement of Wells College. The small institution, which has served as a pillar in the community for more than 155 years said it would be closing at the end of the semester. The appeal, led by Reverend Jacob Marchitell and supported by Wayne County Moms for Liberty, challenged the inclusion of five books they claimed contained inappropriate content for students. Governor Kathy Hochul has announced projects aimed at enhancing safety and mobility across the Finger Lakes Region, representing a significant $46.9 million investment in infrastructure. The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets has issued a warning to consumers against drinking raw milk from Sunset View Creamery in Schuyler County due to potential contamination.
