What makes a good prosecutor? That question is central to the debate happening in Seneca County about who should lead the District Attorney’s office moving forward. On Monday, we caught up with John Nabinger, an attorney with decades of experience, who is running for DA. Canandaigua opens voting for final mascot selection: Bears, Cardinals, or Gray Wolves?
Starting Tuesday, the Canandaigua City School District launches its conclusive survey for selecting a new mascot and symbol, in response to the New York State Education Department’s directive last November. The mandate required all districts with Native American mascots to introduce replacements by the conclusion of the 2022-23 academic year. The current survey, which will run from October 10 to 15, queries participants if they favor having a nickname/mascot for the school district. Should respondents affirmatively choose to have a mascot, they will further be presented with three final options: Bears, Cardinals, or Gray Wolves. Depending on the majority preference, the leading choice will be submitted for the school board’s endorsement on October 30.
Historic Goulds water tower coming down this week
Work began Monday to take the iconic tower down, which has stood in that location for nearly 100 years. The tower was built in 1926 and was originally used to provide water pressure to all the buildings on the property. However, the tower hasn’t been in use since 1994. The material from the tower will be repurposed, officials say.
