‘KEEP US IN YOUR HEARTS’: Future of Penn Yan Diner uncertain, but owners grateful for community support
The blaze, reported just before midnight, caused significant damage to the beloved diner on East Elm Street. Firefighters from Penn Yan, Himrod, and Benton worked quickly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings. Owners Anna Sweet, Nate Salpeter, Alicia Avellandeda, and Cameron Mills expressed deep gratitude for the heroic efforts of the Police and Fire Departments. They also thanked the community for the overwhelming support and love shown during this difficult time. Despite the uncertainty, the owners remain hopeful about the diner’s future.
What’s trending in the Finger Lakes?
Authorities in Cayuga County have provided new information on the fatal wreck that happened around 1:35 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 38 and Route 370 in the Town of Victory. According to Sheriff Brian Schenck, a southbound pickup truck failed to yield at a stop sign and was struck by an eastbound tractor trailer. [Full Story]
There’s some uncertainty, but officials are working through answering questions about a 90-year-old water treatment plant on the Wells College campus. This plant treats drinking water for the village of Aurora, drawing from Cayuga Lake. The arrangement of a municipality buying water from a private college is unique. [Full Story]
What’s the forecast look like today?
The Town of Tyre now has its own fire company. That means the Tyre Fire Co. will begin the process of integrating and providing fire protection for the town’s approximately 1,000 residents. The Town Board approved the incorporation of the new fire company on May 22, and the New York State Department of State accepted the incorporation papers on Friday. [Full Story]
