Toll hikes approved for NYS Thruway: What happens next? When will they take effect?
The New York State Thruway is set to see its first toll increase in 14 years, with rates rising starting January 1, 2024. The Thruway Authority greenlit the hike on Monday, outlining phased increments for the next few years. Drivers with an in-state E-ZPass can expect a five percent toll increase next year, followed by another five percent jump in 2027. Meanwhile, New York motorists without an E-ZPass will face a steeper 75 percent hike in tolls.
Marion woman dies in fatal collision with town sweeper truck
On Monday, September 18 a fatal accident occurred on Parker Road in Marion shortly before 10:30 a.m. The Wayne County Office of the Sheriff confirmed that 49-year-old Michelle L. Nesbitt, of Marion, rear-ended a Marion Town Sweeper Truck. The truck was operated by Steven J. Taber, 55, of Marion. Both were headed southbound when the incident took place.
Ontario, Tompkins home prices drop; median sits at $400K and $338K
August brought a dip in median home prices for both Ontario and Tompkins counties. Ontario County homes were listed at a median of $400,400, marking a 1.1% decline from July, yet reflecting a 0.5% year-over-year increase from August 2022. Additionally, the price per square foot rose 9.5% from last year, with homes typically spending 32 days on the market. Tompkins County homes faced a sharper decline, with a 7.3% drop from July, settling at a median of $338,499. Despite this, prices still showcased a 1.4% increase from the previous year, and a 10.1% surge in the price per square foot from August 2022.
