Gas leak sparks major cleanup in Clifton Springs
A gas leak at Crosby’s Gas Station in Clifton Springs has triggered a large-scale investigation and cleanup effort by the New York State DEC.
HERE’S WHAT WE KNOW
On August 15, DEC officials responded to reports of strong gasoline odors near the station at 1 Kendall Street.
That led to the discovery that fuel had contaminated the sanitary and storm sewers, as well as Sulphur Creek.
The leak, linked to a failed tank test, prompted the emptying of gasoline storage tanks and the deployment of environmental response teams as residents reported severe gas fumes with hazmat teams going door to door to ensure the community’s safety.
