Liz Yockel talks enhancing DMV, other services in rural communities amid campaign for Ontario County Clerk
Liz Yockel wants every resident in Ontario County to feel served by the clerks office. Whether it’s DMV, property records, or anything in-between – when she began her campaign for Ontario County Clerk the goals centered around responsible improvement of services. On this edition of FLX Today we continue conversations with local candidates for elected office by learning more about Yockel, who is aiming to be the next clerk in Ontario County.
Sands Family YMCA will open its doors on October 2
The Sands Family YMCA is set to open its new North Road facility on October 2, following fifteen months of construction. Prior to the official opening, the facility is hosting open houses on September 30 for members and on October 1 for the wider community, allowing locals to explore the expansive new $24 million center. The Mickey Sands Child Care Center, located within the facility, has been operational since September 5, aligning with the commencement of the new school year, while the former YMCA location on 32 N. Main St. shut its doors on July 28.
Former Auburn police officer pleads guilty to sexually abusing 14-year-old
A former Auburn Police officer confessed in Cayuga County Court to sexually abusing a 14-year-old student while serving as a school resource officer at Auburn High School. On Thursday, William Morrissey III, , 33, admitted to explicit sexual conduct and inappropriate video interactions with the student in February 2022, leading to his guilty plea to first-degree sexual abuse and disseminating indecent material to minors, both class D felonies, according to The Citizen. Morrissey is scheduled for sentencing on Dec. 21, facing two years in state prison and 10 years of post-release supervision for the sexual abuse charge, the minimum sentence for the offense.
