Greenidge loses air permit appeal, but not the right to keep operating Dresden plant
Although Greenidge Generation lost its state air permit appeal last week, the company appears likely to continue operating its power plant and Bitcoin mining facility in Dresden through September — or beyond. While the Department of Environmental Conservation has declined to say if or when it plans to order the plant to shut down, the company has vowed to keep it open as it appeals the DEC’s May 8 ruling in state court.

Prosecutors in Ontario County have shed new light on an active case involving a Canandaigua man who’s accused of rape. At this point, the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office believes there could be more victims. In late-April Joshua Abril-Alicea, 28, of Canandaigua, was arrested by state police and charged with one count of third-degree rape for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 17. New York State Police have identified Anthony J. Carnevale, 74, as the man killed in a multi-vehicle accident on 5&20 last Friday. According to family members, the 74-year-old was a retired teacher and Seneca Falls native. [Read More]

A family is mourning after 38-year-old Jarod Brown from Dundee, an employee of Parmenter Tire in Phelps, died during a roadside assistance call on Route 21 in Canandaigua on Monday. Brown was dispatched to fix two flat tires on a couple’s motorhome returning from a vacation in Florida. [Read More]
Seneca County Undersheriff Melinda Marquart has been named a 2024 New York State Senate “Woman of Distinction,” representing State Senator Tom O’Mara’s 58th Senate District. Marquart, Seneca County’s first female undersheriff, was sworn in at the beginning of this year, marking a milestone in her distinguished law enforcement career. [Read More]
Eleven nonprofit organizations in Ontario County will share over $572,000 in grant funding to enhance arts, cultural, and recreational facilities for residents. The grants, funded by the Federal American Rescue Plan Act, were approved by the county’s Board of Supervisors. [Read More]
