Pair of fires devastate in Cayuga and Wayne counties
TWO DEAD AFTER CAYUGA COUNTY BLAZE
State police say they’re continuing an investigation into a fatal fire that took place on Drake Road in the town of Conquest on Tuesday. Neighbors saw flames coming from the structure around 6 a.m., and despite trying to alert residents inside, no one answered.
WAYNE COUNTY HOME DESTROYED BY FIRE
First responders were called to a structure fire at a single-story home in Wayne County early-Tuesday. While details about the fire remain few-and-far between — the visual devastation to the property is clear. The Williamson Fire Department shared a brief update early-Wednesday.

Last night the Macedon Town Board accepted Chief Fabian Rivera’s resignation. This came less than 24 hours after he was arrested for DWI following a crash in his town issued vehicle. New details have emerged about the incident, though, accounting for the second set of DWI charges he faces. Authorities say he was driven home from the crash by a Macedon police officer, and then got in his personal vehicle, only to be arrested a second time. [Read More]
The clock is ticking for thousands of drivers across the Finger Lakes this holiday week as the state DMV prepares to suspend thousands of licenses. It’s happening because of a pandemic-era rule that allowed many drivers who needed a vision test to skip it. Now, those rules are fading and upwards of 60,000 drivers still haven’t acted on getting a vision test or submitting one to the state. [Read More]

Staying in Cayuga County, former Legislature Chair Steven Cuddeback, a respected farmer, businessman, and military veteran passed away earlier this month at 65 years old following a brief battle with cancer. Family announced his passing, and shared a legacy that runs deep in Cayuga County. [Read More]
And finally, a fundraising effort is underway for a family in Waterloo. Pam Bailey of Faison, North Carolina has organized a fundraising campaign to assist her sister, Alicia Weir, of Waterloo, who is raising her three grandchildren after the unexpected passing of their mother. [Read More]
PREMIERING AT 8 AM: Pay Transparency Law requires more out of businesses big and small in New York
This week we’re taking a deeper look at the Pay Transparency Law, which took effect in New York on September 17, 2023. The law mandates employers with four or more employees disclose the compensation or salary range for every advertised job listing, promotion, or transfer opportunity. To discuss it more, we were recently joined by employment attorney Jared Cook, who shared his expectations of what enforcement might look like in the next year.
