Could Cayuga County have an animal abuse registry? Sheriff says it’s a priority
Sheriff Brian Schenck says he’s working with the Finger Lakes SPCA to create an animal abuse registry for Cayuga County. The proposed registry would publicly list individuals convicted of animal abuse, helping to prevent them from acquiring new pets. The Sheriff explained that this measure is aimed at repeat offenders who continue to mistreat animals after prior convictions.

Two juveniles have been arrested in connection with a threatening message posted on Snapchat, according to the Seneca Falls Police Department. Authorities were alerted to the incident by the FBI and the New York State Intelligence Center on the evening of Sept. 23. [Read More]
A man involved in a grandparent scam that defrauded an elderly couple out of more than $24,000 has been sentenced in Cayuga County Court. Joel F. Mathilda, 25, was sentenced in absentia to 2 1/3 to 7 years in state prison for third-degree grand larceny and an additional 364 days in jail for conspiracy. Both sentences will run concurrently.
