Palmyra faces salt shortage as demand surges statewide
Palmyra and other municipalities are struggling with a road salt shortage, prompting concerns about delayed deliveries from American Rock Salt. The company attributes the issue to persistent cold weather driving historic demand across the Northeast, though it denies that expanded contracts caused the shortage. Gov. Kathy Hochul has suspended trucking service limits to expedite deliveries, but officials stress the need for long-term solutions.

Hazardous travel conditions, gusty winds, and accumulating snowfall could persist into the weekend, with another major storm expected Saturday night into Sunday.

The court cases for Waterloo Town Supervisor Don Trout and Board Member Rob Lotz, charged with third-degree burglary, have been delayed until March 10. The charges stem from their alleged unauthorized entry into the town Highway Department building on March 25, 2024, where they reportedly damaged a television. Both officials have pleaded innocent and stated they will not resign, claiming they acted to remove the TV after the highway superintendent failed to do so.
A pre-trial hearing for Casey Murphy and Madison Herendeen, charged in a pit bull attack that injured a father and son in Canandaigua, has been postponed to March 3. The pair face assault and reckless endangerment charges after their unleashed dog attacked Ryan VanGrol and his 10-year-old son last August. The dog involved was euthanized, and the victims suffered significant injuries, particularly the father, who shielded his son from the attack.
