First up, we have the surprising news that came out of Albany late-yesterday that the state’s Congressional maps were getting tossed out. The New York Court of Appeals has ruled that the state’s Independent Redistricting Commission must redraw congressional district lines. The 4-3 ruling states that the commission did not fulfill its constitutional duty and must submit new maps to the state Legislature for approval by February 28, 2024. [Read More]
Ana Marsh, a 19-year-old resident of Venice, tragically passed away on Monday afternoon at Strong Memorial Hospital due to injuries sustained in a head-on collision last week. The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office confirmed her passing, following the crash that occurred on Route 90 near Creek Road in Genoa on Thursday afternoon. [Read More]

The Seneca County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) is set to focus its efforts on the redevelopment of the vacant Willard Psychiatric Center campus in Romulus in 2024. Sarah Davis, the executive director of the IDA, emphasized this new direction in her annual report, attributing the shift to a slowdown in new projects due to high interest rates. [Read More]
Residents of the North Rose-Wolcott Central School District are set to vote on a significant $16.8 million capital improvement project, aimed at enhancing educational facilities across the district. The Cayuga Nation says it is going to commence litigation regarding the intrusion of the New York State Thruway in Cayuga County. On Tuesday, the Nation announced in a press release that it plans to sue the state of New York regarding the intrusion of the Thruway through a northeast portion of its 64,015-acre reservation. The suit was filed in federal court and seeks to correct what leaders describe as a “decades long failure by the State to obtain Federal approval for the highway.” [Read More]
