FLX CANDIDATES: Frank Schmitter says Seneca Falls needs to address infrastructure, prioritize good relationship with Cayuga Nation
On this edition of FLX Today we continue our series previewing local elections by talking with one of the candidates running for Seneca Falls Town Supervisor. Frank Schmitter defeated incumbent Mike Ferrara in a primary in June to run on the Republican line. However, he was also supported by Democrats at their caucus. While Ferrara has continued his campaign, running as a Conservative in the general election, Schmitter has shifted his focus to issues he says have an impact on day-to-day life for residents. Infrastructure issues related to street and basement flooding, as well as building stronger relationships with entities like the Cayuga Nation.
National milk carton shortage hits local schools: Seneca Falls says water, cheese stick will be offered as alternative
Schools are revising their meal plans due to a significant shortage of half-pint milk cartons affecting Upstate Farms, the primary supplier to many school districts. The scarcity of appropriate packaging means that the usual milk servings are not currently available for students, despite the essential role milk plays in supporting childhood development and immune health. The Seneca Falls Central School District is among those improvising, replacing milk with bottled water and a cheese stick to compensate for the missing nutritional value typically provided by milk.
ELECTION PREVIEW: Who will be the next mayor in Geneva?
Over the last 45 days we’ve been sitting down with candidates from across our coverage area talking with them about the biggest issues in their respective races. While not all candidates opted to participate, there were several key races that saw multiple candidates participate. Now that early voting is underway, we will be previewing contested races with multiple candidates who participated in our series. Today we shine a spotlight in Geneva, which much like the Auburn contest for mayor, features two familiar faces: Democratic City Councilor Jan Regan and incumbent Democrat Steve Valentino, who is running as a Republican.
