Seneca Lake State Park unveils new trail linking Geneva to Cayuga-Seneca Canal
Seneca Lake State Park has launched a fresh trail extension, connecting the City of Geneva’s trail system directly to the Cayuga-Seneca Canal Trail. The partnership between the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, the Department of Transportation (DOT), and the City of Geneva has borne fruit in the form of the 2,130-foot-long, 27-foot-wide paved trail. State Parks Commissioner Erik Kulleseid praised the trail as an enhanced recreational opportunity, emphasizing the outdoor allure of the Finger Lakes Region and the combined effort to amplify its significance.
The Village Store in Geneva will close its doors after five decades
A fixture in the community for over 50 years, The Village Store, often referred to as the “Hallmark store,” closed its doors on Saturday. Owner Karen Shoemaker, who recently turned 82, expressed a mix of relief and regret over the decision to close when recently speaking with the Finger Lakes Times. While she had hoped to find a successor to continue the legacy of the store, those efforts were unsuccessful. Karen and her late husband Richard purchased The Village Store in 1972.
