Officials and residents are expressing concern in Canandaigua after a serial sex offender was released following a recent arrest. Paul Goodrell was arrested last week for exposing himself to a 7-year-old at a local grocery store. It’s the latest in a long list of incidents he’s been involved in (and convicted of) since the late-1980s. Despite being charged with public lewdness and endangering the welfare of a child, prosecutors say that a parole judge’s decision contributed to Goodrell’s release. [Read More]
A recently introduced bill in the New York State Assembly is seeking to mandate that all restaurants at Thruway rest stops, including Chick-fil-A, operate seven days a week. This legislative proposal aims to address the current practice of Chick-fil-A, a fast-food chain known for its policy of closing on Sundays, a day typically characterized by significant traveler activity on the Thruway. It was a pretty quiet night for high school basketball in the Wayne Finger Lakes league, but the Canandaigua and Wayland-Cohocton girls teams both got wins on Saturday. Over on the boys side of things—Wayne got a one-point victory over Pass Christian in Florida, and Canandaigua took down Brockport to improve to 4-1. A new form of theft, known as “card draining,” is impacting gift card purchasers across the United States. This scam involves criminals swiftly draining the value from gift cards, sometimes even before the buyer has left the store. Wes Bailey from East Rochester experienced this firsthand when a $75 gift card he purchased from Wegmans and mailed to a relative in Victor was found to have only $0.05 left by the time the recipient checked its balance. In the aftermath of a tragic three-car crash in Newfield that resulted in the death of Waverly High School senior Peyton Shaw, Ty Beeman, the driver of the involved Toyota and a student-athlete at Mansfield University, is now reported to be in stable condition at Robert Packer Hospital. Holiday travel season is upon us and everyone is busy. A recent crash on the NYS Thruway is a reminder to everyone that being alert on the road is a MUST! A trooper was providing traffic control along a portion of the Thruway for a disabled motorist when a pickup truck slammed into the rear of the cruiser.
