We start with Gov. Hochul signing a controversial bill into law. In a bid to increase voter turnout in local elections—many local elections will be shifted to even-numbered years. This change aligns these elections with state and federal races.

The ambitious Rosalen Solar Energy Center, poised to be one of New York’s largest solar projects, is still awaiting approval, pushing its construction timeline to potentially 2027. Initially expected to be operational by 2023 or 2024, the project, covering 2,000 acres in Wayne County’s towns of Rose and Galen, aims to generate 200 megawatts of electricity. [Keep Reading]
Geneva’s Routes 5&20 are set for a makeover as road work resumes next year after a brief hiatus. The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) plans to repave the eastbound section from Lake Street to the Seneca County line. This project, described as a “road diet,” will reduce the eastbound lane to a single lane while maintaining two lanes westbound. David Gould, a former Cayuga County sheriff, capped off his extensive career in public service with a notable two-year stint as the chair of the Cayuga County Legislature. Gould, who retired as sheriff at the end of 2018, continued his public service by running unopposed for the county Legislature in 2021, representing the District 5 area covering the towns of Aurelius and Fleming. And finally, we’re following the latest on two serious accidents that happened overnight in Cayuga County. The first was on Weedsport-Sennett Rd., where LifeNet reportedly airlifted one person to a hospital. The second was a car-pedestrian accident that happened in the town of Victory.
